Adjudicator Profile

Stephanie is a Distinguished Research Professor and Full Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School. She is also a mediator and arbitrator with ADR Chambers, and serves as counsel on a range of commercial matters.

In the construction context, for the last 20 years, Stephanie has represented clients on files involving residential and commercial construction related insolvency matters. She has also overseen the work of the Osgoode Small Business Clinic in assisting trades, including general contractors and owners with legal work that anticipates construction disputes. Stephanie is co-author of the most widely used contract law textbook in Canada, including multiple chapters on construction related contractual disputes.

Stephanie has experience in commercial, corporate and construction matters involving bankruptcy/insolvency, construction liens, contracts, shareholder and partnership issues, and financial regulation. She has performed public and private sector audits, reviews and consultations for the Department of Justice, University of Alberta, Law Commission of Ontario, the Federal Law Commission of Canada, the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association, and various independent federal and provincial regulatory agencies.

Stephanie has held senior administrative responsibilities including director of the graduate programs in bankruptcy, banking and finance law. Stephanie has taught courses in bankruptcy, insolvency and contract law across Canada, the United States, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. She is also the Academic Director of the Osgoode Small Business Clinic.

Stephanie has a LL.M. from Harvard Law School and a LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School.  She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002.

Stephanie has authored and co-authored numerous books and articles on bankruptcy, contract law and corporate and commercial law.  She is co-founder and was, until 2022, editor of the Insolvency Institute of Canada Law Journal, established in 2011.
