Ewuwuni Onnoghen-Theophilus
Ewuwuni Onnoghen-Theophilus is a construction lawyer and ADR practitioner with over 14 years of experience. She obtained a Master of Laws degree (LL.M) in construction law from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland in 2012, and thereafter worked as Associate Counsel in Bayo Ojo and Co., a reputable law firm in Nigeria from 2012 to 2018. In 2016, Ewuwuni authored the first textbook on the laws and legal principles which govern the Nigerian construction industry. Her book is titled “Construction Law in Nigeria”. Its second edition was published in June 2022.
Ewuwuni has a firm grasp of the construction process from inception to post-completion. In 2018, Ewuwuni started her own law firm which specializes in construction dispute resolution. As lead counsel in her law firm, Ewuwuni frequently represents public and private sector clients in court and arbitral proceedings. As an arbitrator, she sits as sole arbitrator and co-arbitrator in construction disputes.
Ewuwuni is listed as member in the Panel of Neutrals of the Shanghai International Arbitration Centre (SHIAC), the Uwais Dispute Resolution Centre (formerly known as the Abuja Multidoor Court House of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory), Nigeria, the Delta State Multidoor Court House, Delta State, Nigeria, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, and the Dispute Resolution Centre of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nigeria. She is a former member of the Executive Committee (Exco) of the Construction Projects & Infrastructure Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association-Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL), member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), the Institute of Construction Industry Arbitrators, Nigeria, and the Scottish Arbitration Centre, Edinburg.
Ewuwuni is currently studying for a PhD in law at the University of Ottawa. Her areas of expertise are:
