Adjudicator Profile

Dr. Ahmad Shahroodi, Ph.D., P.Eng. is a Senior Forensic Engineer and Project Manager in the field of Civil Engineering and Structure. Ahmad worked as a project manager, designer, forensic engineer, and quality control manager in many structural and infrastructure projects across Canada. 

Having worked as a designer/project manager in the concrete industry (ready-mix and precast), Dr. Shahroodi is familiar with the testing, capabilities, construction, and possible issues with infrastructures.  In the world of forensic engineering, Ahmad has worked on both infrastructure (sewers, tunnels, culverts, bridges, retaining walls, and underground electrical utility vaults) and structural projects (building, municipal and highway paving, and concrete sidewalks). This experience coupled with his skills in structural design means he has an excellent understanding of structure/infrastructure behavior under various types of loading and damage.

As a senior forensic expert, Dr. Shahroodi conducts investigations on a variety of insurance claim (building and structural failures and damage) and prepares expert reports to identify the cause of the damage/collapse and determine its extent. If required, he offers detailed inspection methods (destructive and non-destructive). His forensic reports, testimonies, and expertise have been referred to in several over province projects. Ahmad is completely familiar with the process of insurance claims, subrogation, and construction litigation. 

As a project manager, Ahmad was involved in many construction contract disputes in mid-size and mega-size projects. In those cases, Ahmad successfully handled many cases of failure to complete work within the schedule, failure to make payments as per the contract, change orders, and failures to follow the specification or contract.

Ahmad obtained his bachelor degree in Civil Engineering. He was awarded a full scholarship for his Master's studies from the University of Toronto. Ahmad pursued his doctorate studies with scholarship admission at the University of Ottawa, where he started teaching as well.  Both his master's and doctorate researches were on concrete durability and non-destructive testing of concrete structures. With great knowledge in engineering law and contract law, Ahmad has mentored and instructed many candidates, who needed to write the "Law & Ethics" examination to become professional engineers.  

Dr. Shahroodi is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the provinces of Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. He is also an associate member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI)-Committee 228 (Non-destructive Testing of Concrete) and a voting member of the ACI-Committee 228-B (Inspection of Structures). In addition, he is an active member of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering (CSCE).
