Adjudicator Profile

Charles was born and raised in southwest Hamilton and currently resides in Burlington. He was called to the Bar in 1985.

He acts as a Mediator and Arbitrator in all manner of disputes including commercial litigation matters, business succession and estate litigation.

Charles was a lawyer from April 1985 to the end of 2018 at which time he retired from the practice of law to continue his Mediation & Arbitration practice.

He has extensive experience in commercial litigation, construction lien, municipal law, real estate, wills and estates. In the 1990s he was appointed and acted as an Arbitrator pursuant to The National Energy Board Act. For 14 years, Charles acted as a prosecutor for the Department of Justice dealing with Income Tax and other related matters. He has acted as an advisor to clients who have been prosecuted for Income Tax matters and other regulatory offences and /or are having difficulties with government agencies. Charles is a certified mediator, having completed the mediation program at Harvard Law School. 

Charles has taught and given lectures in various areas of his expertise.

He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Hamilton Community Foundation as well as Board of Governors of the Art Gallery of Hamilton, served as Chair of Hamilton Health Sciences' Board of Directors from 2019 to 2021 as well as Chair of the Art Gallery of Hamilton from 2013 to 2015 and was previously a coordinator of its Vista Italia program as well as a member of its Law Group. He is past Chair and founding member of Burlington Community Foundation, past Chair of Burlington Community Foundation Professional Advisors Sub-Committee, past Chair of Burlington Community Foundation Planning and Development Committee, and Chair of Burlington Mayor's Gala 2001 Committee. 

In addition to the above-noted community work, Charles has held many positions with Sons of Italy including Chair of Villa Italia Retirement Complex (Board & Building Committee), National President (1995-9) and local President (1990-2). 

He is also a co-founder of Cinema Insieme, an Italian film club.

Charles was awarded Italian Canadian Citizen of the Year in 2010, Festitalia Heritage Award in 2015, CIBPA Professional Excellence Award in 2018, and appointed Sicilian Ambassador in 2022.
