Adjudicator Profile

James Steele, P.Eng. has spent more than 22 years working in the construction industry and has held various roles acting on behalf of Owners, General Contractors, Sewer and Watermain Contractors, Subcontractors, Manufacturers and Suppliers. This broad range of experience provides James with a unique understanding when reviewing, interpreting and administering construction contracts as he can understand each party to the contract's perspective. He has been employed in roles such as project engineer, project manager, construction estimator, procurement manager and engineering manager.
His career included experience in all stages of the project lifecycle, such as design, tendering, bidding, construction management and commissioning of municipal infrastructure projects. He has experienced rough grading (earthworks), sewer, watermain and road building projects along with being directly involved in major sewage pumping station projects which included process mechanical, electrical, instrumentation/SCADA, building services and site works. These projects ranged in value from a few hundred thousand dollars to $54 million.
In summary, James has participated in projects in the following areas:
- industrial (process mechanical, electrical, building envelope, HVAC)
- public buildings (building construction, LEED, Living Building Challenge)
- transportation and infrastructure (rough grading, roads, sewer, drainage, watermain, dewatering, bridges)
In addition to his extensive employment experience, James has also performed as a general contractor for several for his residential renovation projects.
